Big kitchens seem to be all the rage at the moment, but if you can’t afford a brand new extension and you’re stuck with a smaller sized kitchen then there are a few different things you can do to make your kitchen seem bigger than it is. Here at Starplan Fitted Kitchens Showroom, we have years of experience when it comes to creating dream kitchens out of whatever space you have available.
Small Fitted Kitchens
- Colour Scheme
A light and bright colour scheme works so much better in smaller areas as it allows the light to bounce around more freely. Whites and creams are the obvious go to but if you did want to look beyond the usual, you could look at pastel shades or even grey.
No matter what colour you choose, try and make sure that the cabinets and walls are a similar colour so it all flows and nothing stands out to the eye.
- Kitchen Finish
Talking about light, we would always suggest choosing a glossy finish over a matte one. The gloss will help the natural light move around the room and if it looks right, then why not add a mirror to one of the walls for more light?
- Lighting
The final point we need to make about lighting is to keep it simple! If you have a small fitted kitchen with a low ceiling then we’d avoid large, over the top light fittings. Integrated lighting is ideal as it won’t take up much space. You could also install downlights underneath your cabinets for extra brightness.
- Clutter
And this is probably the easiest way you can make your kitchen seem bigger, get rid of all your clutter! Anything that you don’t use on a daily basis like kettles, microwaves or any statement pieces that add to the room can be hidden away in your cupboards. Keep your sides as minimal as possible and display things sparingly.
