You could say that aside from your cooking appliances, your work tops are up there with one of the most important parts of your fitted kitchen. They’re an area that takes a lot of wear: food preparation, hot pans, small kitchen appliances. So it’s important that you choose the right work top for your kitchen. Our fitted kitchens showroom have a range of different work tops on display so you can see them in all of their glory. But how do you choose the right one for you?

First you need to work out a budget. Once you know your budget, you know how much you can spend on the worktop materials. If you’re on the lower end of the budget then laminated wood might be the right choice, but if you’ve got a little bit more money to spend then you could look for a real wood or real stone.
If you’ve already got your kitchen layout planned out, then that could help you chose what worktop to install depending on the joints. Straight cuts are cheaper however if you’re looking for seamless joints then you might need to look at composite materials.
You also need to take into account any future maintenance and upkeep costs. If you do chose a real wood worktop then you need to be aware that they will need oiling and sealing to keep it looking as good as possible.
Thickness is a common thing that people forget about. The thickness of your worktop can have a major effect on the way your kitchen looks.
